More reviews and international airplay!

After an international release i December, reviews of our latest, Yonkers, shows up around the world. From what we´ve heard, uur music is also played at major radio stations both in Europe and USA. BBC as well! We´re also planning a lot of touring in 2012, and we´re looking forward to play more concerts outside Norway.

Here´s a couple of new reviews!

THE JAZZ BREAKFAST

“Track three, Major Little, is a good place to start, showing how neatly the pair have melded European and American jazz influences into a fresh material. Coral Fox is possibly the loveliest – a really dreamy ebb and flow of timbral richness, with melodic hints of an American songbook classic that I am still trying to identify.”

JAZZ ON BLOG

“Der so entstehende Eindruck einer weiten Landschaft ist dabei ein glücklicher Nebeneffekt. „Yonkers“ ist das Ergebnis einer ebenso spannenden wie entspannten Studiosession, die zwei Musiker im Einklang mit sich selbst zeigt. Großartiges Ohrenkino aus Norwegen!”

ROCK A ROLLA (JAN 2012)

“The interplay between Dale on piano and Roligheten on sax is never less than perfectly intuitive, while always allowing for one or another to embark on flights of fancy. Perfect late-night jazz.”

Review in The New York Times!

Today we received a notification about a stunning review in The New York Times! We were really excited, to say the least, that our album has reached the states. The album is actually recorded in New York as well, so the cycle is closed :-)

To read it, click on this link, or read below.

Albatrosh

Seen from one angle, this pliable young Norwegian duo could be slotted squarely in the lineage of Keith Jarrett’s exalted work with Jan Garbarek in the 1970s: all the identifying traits are there, from the classical poise to the emotional ardor to the intimation of melodic caprice. But there’s more to Albatrosh — which is to say, the pianist Eyolf Dale and the saxophonist André Roligheten — than any sort of pigeonholing could allow. “Yonkers” (Rune Grammofon), the duo’s third album, is an outright joyride, full of sprightly intricacies (“Linedance”) and boppish contingencies (“Fifths”) and meditative spaces (“Central Park”). Mr. Roligheten has a brusque but appealing tone on tenor saxophone, and Mr. Dale extracts rich sonorities from the piano; their fundamentals are sound. But it’s their intuitive chemistry that lifts the album to another plane, raising hopes for the next go-round.

Great review in UNCUT

Great review of Yonkers in the major UK magazine, UNCUT! The review is to be published right after new years, but for your eyes only (ba-dam!), here´s a preview:

This is exuberant and occasionally unique playing – merry, vamping melodies get befuddled, hover on the edge of really swinging, and drift in and out of freer territory. Roligheten bashes out some percussive key-tapping and reed abuse to switch up the palette at times, just as fellow Scandos Håkon Kornstad or Mats Gustafsson might do. An emotionally complex, big-hearted set. 4/5 stars.
